Jeremiah 17:7-8 has spoken to me through numerous seasons, and below is what I’ve interpreted from it. You’ll notice that what I’ve written from this scripture begins with “Daughter” — this is how God gets my attention. He calls me by who I am.
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green: and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8, King James bible
Daughter, a tree that is green is growing. It’s at its peak. It’s strong. It shows promise of fruit.
A tree that is green through every season withstands the elements.
Have you ever seen rain on a green leaf? It rolls off. It drips onto the trunk and into the earth, draining into the roots. The leaves carry the water, usher it to the rest of the tree. Even while the rain soaks it, makes it bend beneath its weight, it grows stronger.
And the water goes to the river, raises the water level, provides reserves for the roots. The sun and the heat only intensify its color, a light-soaked green.
Heat, snow, drought, wind. Nothing can separate a strong, green leaf from its branch.
Stay green. Stay rooted. Stay on the branch.
In all seasons.
